Bot logs from last night prove this pre-Fed liquidity is straight poison

Sitting here with my third cup of black coffee looking at my terminal and honestly, I just have to laugh so I don't punch my monitor. I spent the entire weekend fine-tuning a mean-reversion scalping script I've been running on and off since late 2023. Nothing crazy, just an automated VWAP deviation bot looking for exhausted liquidity sweeps on 5-minute candles to scalp quick 0.8% to 1.2% bounces with tight invalidations.

Woke up at 5:15 AM, pulled up the logs, and saw four consecutive stops hit within an eight-minute window. Not because the macro thesis was wrong, but because the book depth completely evaporated and the slippages were comical. Classic pre-Fed behavior, yet every single time we get near an FOMC meeting I convince myself "nah this time the orderbook will hold structure."

It never does.

Look at what Treasury yields are doing right now. US yields are sitting around 3-week lows, completely stalled out while the entire bond market holds its breath waiting on what the Fed is gonna say. When yields compress and hover like this before a rate call, the smart money just pulls their bids off the books. They dont sit there and absorb risk for fun. So what happens? The books thin out to absolute paper. Retail algos and scalp bots like mine start firing at phantom support levels, only for some casual $2M market sell order to slice through three layers of bids like a hot wire through butter. Wick down, trigger everybody's stoploss, trigger the cascading liquidations, and then instantly bounce right back into the previous range five minutes later. Pure chop. Pure rekt territory for anyone over-leveraging.

And while retail is getting diced up on the perps trying to front-run a 25 bps cut, the macro plumbing is doing weird things behind the curtain. Did you guys catch that Robinhood and Ripple announcement? Expanding their partnership to roll RLUSD out across retail and institutional rails, plus Ripple tapping BNY for custody and pushing C2FO for trade settlement on the XRPL. Think about that for a second. While guys on Crypto Twitter are crying about 20-pip wicks, traditional custody giants like BNY and platforms like Robinhood are literally building out the institutional stablecoin rails. They know where the structural flow is headed long term. Stablecoins aren't just for degens farming 8% on sketchy pools anymore; it’s corporate settlement now.

Then you look over at the prediction markets side and the clown show gets even wilder. CFTC is literally suing the state of Utah to stop them from going after Kalshi and trying to claw back $60M in event contract profits. It’s wild watching state regulators fight federal regulators over who gets to govern speculative liquidity. It just goes to show how fragmented the whole US regulatory perimeter still is. Prediction markets, stablecoins, perps—everybody wants a piece of the fee revenue, but nobody wants clear rules until after they can sue someone.

All of this noise just feeds directly back into the charts. When regulatory cross-fire happens at the same time the bond market is frozen ahead of Powell taking the podium, you cannot trade like it's a normal trending regime.

My biggest mistake last night—and I’ve been doing this for eight years so I really have no excuse—was keeping my position sizing static instead of cutting it in half. In high-spread, low-depth environments, your normal DCA bands are useless. If your strategy relies on DCAing into a falling knife during an overnight wick, thin liqudity will drag your average entry straight to hell before the bounce even starts. I’ve seen accounts blow up doing that exact thing back in 2020. You think you're getting a discount on the 3rd layer of your DCA, but there's no bid support beneath it until another 4% lower.

If you’re running bots right now or manual scalping on 15m charts, do yourself a favor: either widen your stops significantly and slash your leverage to near zero, or just turn the execution engine off until 48 hours after the Fed presser. The market maker algorithms are hunting stops on both sides of the spread right now. Let the whales sweep each other.

Anyway, gonna go recalibrate the deviation bands and probably sit in spot cash for the rest of the day. Anyone else get wicked out on that 4 AM sweep or was it just my bot being special?
