Yo, listen up because the macro landscape is looking absolutely filthy right now and not in the good way. If you’ve been long on gold the past week, I hope you’ve got some strong stomach lining becuase the charts are basically screaming at us to wake up. We’re seeing a massive shift in sentiment and if you arent paying attention to the cross-asset correlation, you're gonna get rekt.
First off, let’s talk about the yellow rock. I’ve been watching the 4-hour chart like a hawk and that $4,220 pivot zone is basically a brick wall at this point. Gold tried to settle above it, failed, and now we’ve got this ugly bearish trend line forming with resistance sitting right around $4,160. If you’re trying to scalp a long here, you’re basically catching a falling knife. We just hit a two-week low on Thursday and the bears are licking their chops looking at that $4,000 support. I’ve seen this movie before—the "recovery hopes" fade, the paper hands start dumping, and suddenly everyone is wondering why they didn't dca at lower levels.
But why is gold dying when the world feels like it’s on fire? It’s the oil/inflation double whammy, bruh. WTI is finding some serious legs because of the escalation in the Middle East. Usually, you’d think "hey, war = gold up," right? Wrong. Not this time. Because oil prices are climbing, it’s pushing inflation expectations through the roof. We just saw the latest US data—CPI and PPI are staying on an upward trajectory. This means the Fed is going to keep those interest rates elevated for way longer than the "pivot" crowd wants to admit. Higher rates = stronger dollar = gold gets crushed. It’s a vicious cycle and the bears have regained total control of the narrative for now. If $4,100 doesn't hold on a closing basis, we are fast-tracking to $4k, no cap.
Speaking of sovereignty and "control," did you guys see what’s happening over at the ECB? Piero Cipollone is out there doing rounds talking about the digital euro. They’re calling it a key to protecting EU "sovereignty." They’re on track to start testing real transactions in 2027 with a full rollout by 2029. This is huge. While we’re all out here fighting over 50 pip moves in EUR/USD (which is still struggling below 1.1285 btw), the central banks are building a completely different playground. They want to make sure they aren't dependent on foreign payment rails. It’s a long-term play, but it tells you where the heads are at—total digital control. If you think the digital euro is just gonna be "paypal but from the government," you’re missing the bigger picture of how they’re gonna manage liquidity in the next decade.
Back to the immediate mkt though... look at the technicals. Gold is struggling, oil is hovering near $102 after a slight correction, and the dollar is sitting pretty because the Fed has zero reason to cut rates while inflation is sticky. I'm seeing a lot of fomo from people trying to buy the "dip" in gold, but honestly, without a clear break back above $4,160 and then $4,220, any pump is just a gift for the shorters.
I’m currently sitting on my hands for the most part, maybe some light scalping on the 15m if we get a bounce off the $4,080 area, but the macro trend is down. Don't let the "gold is an inflation hedge" boomers trick you into holding a bag while the Fed is still hawkish. Inflation is only a hedge if the Fed is sleeping at the wheel—right now, they’re wide awake and caffeinated.
Watch the $4,000 level. If that breaks, we’re going to see some real liquidation. And keep an eye on those oil headlines; any further escalation in the ME is just going to keep the pressure on gold via the inflation/rate channel. It’s counter-intuitive but that’s the game we play. Stay safe out there, dont over-leverage, and for the love of god, use a stop loss. Thid market doesn't care about your feelings or your "bull case."
