Hey everyone, I’m still pretty new to the trading world and I’m trying my best to keep up with all the news, but I’m a bit lost on this one. I just saw that Bastion Platforms got "conditional OCC approval" to become a national trust bank.
From the summary, it looks like they’re going to be doing stablecoin custody, wallets, and payment stuff, but all as a "federally regulated entity."
I’m trying to wrap my head around what this actually means for the average trader. I have a few (probably very basic) questions for the pros here:
1. What exactly is the OCC, and why is their approval such a big headline?
2. Does "federally regulated" mean our stablecoins are actually safer now, or is this just more red tape that might make things harder for us?
3. Is this the kind of news that actually moves the market, or is it just "behind-the-scenes" corporate stuff that I shouldn't worry about yet?
I really want to understand if this is a sign that crypto is becoming more "mainstream" or if it’s something else entirely. Would love some advice on how to interpret this!
How are you guys reading into this—is this a major win for adoption, or just another bank doing bank things?
