CyprusFintech "milestones" or just another PR hype-train?

I keep seeing people in the local channels hyping up CyprusFintech.org and their latest announcement about reaching "key development milestones." Everyone is acting like Cyprus is suddenly the next Silicon Valley of Europe, but ngl, when you actually read the details, it looks like a whole lot of nothing wrapped in fancy PR wrapping paper. Am I the only one seeing through this, or are we all just huffing the same hopium?

Let's look at what they are actually celebrating here. They are hyping up a mobile app for "professional networking." Seriously, mate? It is 2026. Do we really need another proprietary app just to chat with other finance bros when everyone is already on Telegram, Signal, and LinkedIn? It feels like they are building vaporware to justify their budget. And then they announce a "closed-door, invitation-only" event for elite executives. How does a gatekeeping cocktail party help the actual developers, quantitative traders, or retail guys trying to build real tech on the island? It just sounds like the same old boys' club holding court.

Even the other "milestones" feel incredibly soft. The talent initiatives for women are just "proposals undergoing review." That is literally just an idea on paper, not a milestone. And the University of Cyprus partnership is for internships that do not even start until 2027 or 2028. They are taking a victory lap today for things that might happen two years from now.

Cyprus has so much potential to be a legit hub for FX, crypto, and algorithmic trading, but we need real infrastructure, liquidity solutions, and regulatory clarity, not more executive dinner parties and networking apps. It feels like FOMO-driven marketing to make the local scene look busier than it actually is.

Am I being too cynical here, or is this whole thing just a massive circle-jerk for C-suite suits?
