Don't buy the Bessent wage scare—it's pure noise

Alright guys, I’m seeing everyone in the daily thread losing their minds over Bessent pointing to that rising wage metric. Seriously, some of you are already talking about yields ripping back to local highs and panic-selling your bags. But let’s take a step back and look at the actual game being played here. Out of all the labor and wage indicators that are clearly cooling down across the board, he literally cherry-picked the single outlier that’s still showing an upward tick. Ngl, this is textbook political positioning, not some macroeconomic truth we need to go full bear over.

Why are we suddenly letting one hand-selected data point dictate the entire market narrative? The broader trend is showing a cooling labor market, but everyone is getting FOMO on the inflation-resurgence trade because of a shiny headline. It feels like a massive trap to shake out retail longs. If you're scalping this noise, stay safe because the underlying reality hasn't changed—the consumer is feeling the squeeze, and one lagging wage measure isn't going to magically spark a 1970s-style wage-price spiral.

We need to stop overreacting to every narrative shift these incoming officials throw at the wall. Let's be real, mate, he's setting the stage to justify future tariff policies, not giving us a pure economic read.

So, are we really going to restructure our entire macro playbook over one cherry-picked chart, or are we fading this fake-out?

Spot on. You see it for exactly what it is. The market is just looking for any excuse to create volatility right now, and the algos love these headlines. Everyone is playing the "inflation is back" script until it stops being profitable. I'm holding my longs, honestly. Let the tourists panic sell into the dip.

Spot on man, algos always bite on these headline baits first before actually looking at the chart. If you pull up the daily on SPY, RSI just printed a nice little bullish divergence right off the 50 line anyway, completely ignoring the noise. MACD is still curling up on the 4-hour too, so I'm just sitting on my hands and letting the tourists get shaken out.

Man, I don't care if Bessent is cherry-picking or not, the second those yields start spiking on headline panic, your beautiful RSI divergence is going straight in the shredder. Never argue with the algos when they're chewing through liquidity. I've got my stops set tight just below the swing low because if this "noise" triggers a real de-leveraging event, nobody's going to care about the broader cooling trend while their margin gets wiped out. Protect your capital first, narrative analysis comes second.

You guys are all missing the forest for the trees. Everyone is so obsessed with the "noise" or the "algos" that you’re completely ignoring the fact that if Bessent is even half-right, the market is mispricing the terminal rate by a country mile. Keep staring at your RSI divergences while the bond market actually wakes up and realizes the carry trade is dead. I’m fading the dip-buyers here; this isn't a shakeout, it's the start of a repricing event. Good luck with those longs.

Spot on. Everyone's staring at squiggly lines on SPY while the bond market is quietly lighting itself on fire. You think yields are just going to chill out because of a bullish RSI? Come on. Once the terminal rate gets repriced higher over the next couple of months, all these dip-buyers are going to realize the Fed isn't riding to the rescue with cuts. Inflation is sticky and rate hikes are coming back onto the menu whether people like it or not.
