Heads up South Korea is cracking down on unregistered exchanges

I just saw the news about South Korea blocking access to 27 crypto exchanges, and honestly, it’s a massive wake-up call for anyone still keeping their primary stack on offshore platforms. Names like KuCoin and MEXC are on that list, and the authorities are already being blunt about the fact that users might hit a wall when trying to pull their assets out. Ngl, this hits a little too close to home because I’ve been burned by this kind of regulatory pivot before back in the day.

I remember years ago when a similar ban hit an exchange I was using for some altcoin scalping. I went to log in one morning only to find a restricted region notice, and the panic of not knowing if my coins were trapped for weeks was a stress I don’t wish on anyone. It taught me a hard lesson about the importance of self-custody. Ever since then, I’ve stuck to a strict rule: if I’m not actively trading it, it’s not sitting on an exchange. I move my profits to a cold wallet as soon as I hit my targets, because exchange access is a privilege, not a right, and these geo-blocks happen faster than you can FOMO into a pump.

Take this as a sign to double-check where your funds are sitting. If you have assets on these platforms, don’t wait for the DNS block to hit your ISP—move them now while you still have a clear path to your keys. It’s always better to be slightly inconvenienced by a transfer fee than to have your entire portfolio held hostage by a regulatory dispute. Are you guys moving your stuff off these exchanges, or are you hoping to ride it out with a VPN?

Classic reminder that counterparty risk can wipe you out just as fast as skipping a stop loss.

If you're keeping more capital on these off-shore platforms than what you actually need for your active position sizes, you're asking for trouble. Pull the excess into cold storage before withdrawals suddenly go "under maintenance." Not worth the headache.

Spot on, Mason. People always learn that lesson the hard way when the panic actually starts.

Besides, with all this regulatory heat ramping up, keeping stuff on a sketchy book right now is just asking for a headache. I was checking the daily charts on a few alt pairs earlier and the momentum is already looking completely exhausted anyway—MACD is crossing bearish on the 4H and RSI is screaming divergence. Good time to just flatten things out and lock profits offline while withdrawals are still actually working.
