Everyone in this space loves to parrot "not your keys, not your coins" until reality hits, and honestly this latest Ledger mess in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong should be a massive wake-up call. They’re literally halting retail sales across entire regions because devices are getting tampered with somewhere along the supply chain before even hitting store shelves.

The mainstream crypto crowd treats hardware wallets like an untouchable silver bullet, but let's be real for a second. We went from database leaks exposing everyone’s home addresses, to controversial closed-source recovery firmware, and now we have straight-up physical supply-chain attacks sitting on distributor shelves. If an average trader has to play detective and audit microcontrollers just to hold their spot bags safely, the whole UX premise has failed.

Ngl, at this point you have to wonder if retail is actually taking on more risk buying these plastic dongles than just using a heavily secured, multi-sig setup or even keeping active trading funds on a tier-1 exchange with hardware 2FA and address whitelisting. The purists will downvote this to oblivion, but physical retail distribution for crypto keys feels fundamentally broken.

Are we still pretending hardware wallets are foolproof, or is the self-custody elite just ignoring how vulnerable this supply chain really is?
