Total beginner here, does the daily crypto news actually move BTC?

Hey guys, total newbie here so please go easy on me. I’ve been trying to get serious about crypto over the last few weeks, but ngl, I am completely overwhelmed. Every single morning I look at these daily recaps and there are like twenty different headlines about Bitcoin price action, random DeFi drama, new regulatory threats, and Web3 updates. My head is spinning trying to figure out what actually moves the charts and what is just noise.

Every time I see some scary regulation news I feel the urge to panic, but then the market suddenly pumps anyway. Then other days some supposedly bullish news drops and we immediately dump. It's making me second-guess every move, and I really don't want to blow up my small account because of stupid FOMO or knee-jerk reactions to headlines.

For the veteran traders in here, how do you actually filter through all these daily events? Do you guys trade off these daily news cycles when you scalp, or is it better for a beginner like me to just ignore the headlines completely and hold?

Honestly man, news is usually just noise designed to trap you. I stopped reading headlines years ago because half the time "bullish" news is just exit liquidity for the big players while "bad" news is where they're actually buying the dip. If you look at your charts, you'll see the price usually hits a major support level or prints a reversal candle long before the news cycle catches up. Just stick to the naked charts and ignore the talking heads—the candles don't lie, but the headlines definitely do.

Man, I feel you. I spent my first six months stressing over every single tweet and headline, and all it did was cost me money. Honestly, just stop reading the news. It's almost always priced in by the time you're reading it anyway.

I promise you, the charts tell the real story. When you see a bullish divergence on the RSI while the price is tapping a support level, that’s your signal. Not some guy on Twitter talking about regulation.

Watch for those MACD crossovers too. They usually give you a much cleaner entry than reacting to whatever fear-mongering headline is trending that morning. Just focus on the technicals, let the institutional guys play their games with the news cycle, and stick to your strategy. You'll keep your sanity that way.

Bro, ignore 99% of that fluff. The only "news" that actually moves BTC is CPI, NFP, and FOMC rate decisions. Everything else is just clickbait designed to shake out retail. If you're trading random crypto blogs, you're just exit liquidity. Watch the macro data drops, trade the reaction, and ignore the rest.

Everyone here is acting like they’re some zen master of the charts, but honestly, you guys are just as predictable as the news you claim to hate. If you’re all ignoring the news, that’s exactly why the market keeps eating you alive. The "noise" isn't a trap; it’s the fuel. When everyone in a thread like this agrees that the news is fake, that’s usually the exact moment the market turns around and burns the "technical" crowd to the ground. News doesn't move price? Keep telling yourself that while you're staring at your RSI indicators waiting for a breakout that never happens because you missed the fundamental shift. Go ahead, trade your lines. I'll be over here watching the headlines that you're all too "smart" to look at.

Look, everyone is debating if news matters or if charts are god, but you’re all missing the point. It doesn't matter if the catalyst is a tweet or an FOMC print if you don't have a plan for when you're wrong. If you’re trading based on headlines, you’re basically gambling, and if you’re trading based on "vibes" from a MACD crossover, you’re still just guessing.

The only thing that actually keeps you in the game is knowing exactly how much you're risking per trade.

If you aren't sizing your positions so that a bad candle doesn't ruin your week, you're toast regardless of what the news says. I don't care if the RSI is screaming buy or the world is ending on CNN—if my stop loss isn't tight and my position size isn't locked in, I don't touch it. Protect the capital first, worry about the news cycle later.
