Am I the only one terrified of scalping this market right now?

Alright guys, need to vent a bit and see if any other short term traders are sweating as much as I am today. Sitting here looking at the 1m and 5m charts on my phone and desktop, and honestly, execution quality right now feels like a absolute minefield. Everyone on Twitter and Telegram is screaming about massive breakouts and "FOMO into the next leg up", but if you're actually down in the trenches scalping quick moves like I do, you know how dangerous these orderbooks are looking right now. Spreads are widening out of nowhere, slippage is getting ridiculous, and one bad wick will completely rekt your risk reward ratio before you can even click close trade.

Take Bitcoin for example. I keep seeing all these macro guys posting on CT about how we are in the "early stages" of a massive bull market because the share of realized cap for coins unmoved for 18 months or longer is dropping. Basically old dormant coins are waking up and moving around. Cool story for spot holders who want to DCA for two years, but for me? Seeing massive amounts of old coins shifting is terrifying. That kind of supply movement means liquidity can shift in a split second. A sudden block transfer hits an exchange orderbook, and bang—a 3% red candle in 45 seconds wiping out every single long stop loss in sight.

I was trying to play a quick breakout setup on BTC this morning around 8am, set a tigh 12-pip SL based on level 2 depth, and I got wicked out literally within 2 seconds. Price immediately reversed and hit my original TP target, but I was already out down $200 because of spread expansion. Infuriating stuff.

And it's not just crypto, look at Gold (XAU). Everyone is blasting out wave analysis saying Gold reversed off that strong 3970.00 supprot level (the one that stopped waves iii and v back in late June) and that it's defintely heading straight to resistance at 4100.00. Yeah, maybe on a 4-hour chart it looks like a clean wave bounce. But if you try to scalp that move on a 3-minute timeframe? It’s a total slaughterhouse. The whipsaws around 3970 were brutal.

I ran a quick test observation on my demo account earlier this week comparing tight trailing stops versus fixed target exits during these macro support retests, and the fakeouts are occurring like 40% more often than they did last month. You think you're buying a clean bounce off supprot, and then a random 15-dollar candle nukes your margin.

On top of all that market volatility, we still have to deal with platform and structural noise breaking up sentiment. Did you guys see the news about Coinbase? They’re denying any core systems breach, saying it was just their analytics vendor (Amplitude) that got hit, exposing customer contact data. Sure, Coinbase core infrastructure didn't get hacked, but when vendor data leaks like that happen, retail gets spooked, market makers pull back liquidity depth to adjust risk, and exchange order books get paper-thin. Thin order books are a scalper's worst nightmare. When there's no depth on the bid/ask, market orders get executed 5 to 10 pips away from where you clicked.

I learned my lesson the hard way back in a high-volatility regime last year. I got stubborn, tried to DCA down into a dropping knife without a strict stoploss thinking "it's at major support, it's gotta bounce," and I lost almost 35% of my total account in under two hours. Never doing that again. DCA is fine for spot long-term bags, but if you're leveraging short-term trades in this market environment without respecting your stoploss, you are asking to get totally rekt.

Right now, I've slashed my position sizing down to less than half my normal lot size. I'm taking maybe 1 or 2 high-conviction trades a day max, hitting TP fast, and getting straight back into cash. Cash is a position!

Are you guys still trying to force scalps in this environment or are you mostly sitting on your hands waiting for spreads to settle down? Anyone else getting wrecked by weird slippage on breakouts today?
