Seeing a lot of folks hyping up the Colombian peso hitting a one-month high just because the central bank might keep rates elevated for longer. Classic market reaction, but ngl, piling into COP right now feels like textbook FOMO. Everyone is acting like yield differentials are the only thing that matters, ignoring the massive cracks forming under the surface.

High rates sound great for the carry trade until you remember what they actually do to local growth. Colombia's domestic economy is already choking under tight credit, political risk hasn't magically vanished, and relying on high rates to defend a currency usually ends with a violent snap back the second the central bank is forced to pivot. It’s hard to justify this move when commodity tailwinds are shaky at best.

To me, this push looks less like a genuine structural breakout and more like a liquidity grab to trap late dollar bears. I'd much rather fade this strength and look for dip-buying opportunities on USD/COP than chase a one-month high on borrowed time.

Are you guys actually holding COP long-term here, or are you just scalp-trading this squeeze before the macro reality hits?

I’ve been watching the COP order flow for the last few sessions and honestly, the volume profile is starting to look pretty exhausted up here. Everyone is acting like this trend is bulletproof, but the risk-to-reward ratio for going long at these levels is completely cooked. Unless we see some major structural shift in the carry trade dynamics, this feels like a classic liquidity trap designed to hunt stops before a reversal. I'm staying on the sidelines until I see a clean retest of the lower support levels because chasing this momentum right now is just begging to get chopped up.
