Seeing all the excitement about the DXY hitting 18-month highs following this latest CPI print is honestly giving me major deja vu. Everyone in here is acting like the October Fed hike is a done deal and that the greenback is headed for the moon, but am I the only one who thinks this is a textbook blow-off top? We’ve been hearing "inflation is sticky" for months now, and yet every time the market gets this euphoric about rate hikes, the rug seems to get pulled out right when the shorts are at their weakest.
Ngl, I feel like the institutional boys are just pumping this narrative to trap the retail crowd into buying the top. The moment everyone starts screaming about a hawkish pivot is usually when the data starts to surprise to the downside and the Fed pivots back to being doveish. I’m looking at these charts and all I see is an asset class that is massively overextended and priced for perfection. If you're FOMOing into long positions up here, you’re basically betting that the economy won’t crack under these rates, which is a massive gamble given the macro headwinds we’re ignoring. Are we really convinced the Fed has the stomach to hike into a slowing labor market, or are we just ignoring the flashing warning signs?
