Everyone’s cheering traditional banks piling into MiCA, but are we blind to the Trojan horse?

Morning everyone. Seen a lot of backslapping this week over the news that traditional banks have doubled their footprint on the EU's MiCA crypto provider register, now making up almost a quarter of the total.

People around here are acting like this is the ultimate "bullish mainstream adoption" milestone. Seriously? Take a step back for a second.

Since when did we start celebrating the exact gatekeepers crypto was designed to bypass taking over 23% of the licensed infrastructure? History tells us that whenever legacy finance piles into a disruptive space under the guise of "regulatory clarity," they don't adapt to the ecosystem—they institutionalize it, neuter it, and eventually price out the independent players.

MiCA wasn't built to protect decentralized finance; it was built to give traditional institutions a moat. If banks control nearly a quarter of the regulated gateway now, what happens to permissionless innovation in Europe a few years down the line? We are literally handing the keys of the kingdom back to the people who caused the 2008 mess.

Am I the only one who thinks having legacy banks dominate a crypto register is a massive red flag rather than a win? Or are we all just suffering from Stockholm syndrome? Drop your thoughts below.

spot on. everyone's popping champagne over institutional volume coming in, but they completely forget the risk-to-reward on permissionless tech when the legacy players write the rules.

look at the historical base rates. every single time a heavily regulated sector gets its hands on a decentralized asset class, margin compression hits the independents first and compliance costs wipe out the alpha.

you're trading away the whole point of the asset class just for some short-term price pump. math doesn't lie, convenience always kills decentralization.

lol are you guys seriously crying about banks stepping in now?

everyone wanted a green light from regulators for years to pump their bags, and now that the adults actually show up with capital, suddenly everyone remembers they hate the system. you can't have your cake and eat it too. if you want institutional money to rescue your heavy bags, you have to let them play by their own rules.

enjoy the liquidity wave, stop crying about the Trojan horse when you literally left the gates wide open.

Spot on. Everyone's so obsessed with the short-term liquidity pump that they're completely ignoring the macro tail risk.

If your position sizing doesn't account for regulatory capture and compliance costs wiping out the independent players, you're gonna get wiped out. Capital preservation means looking past the green candles and seeing who actually holds the keys when the market turns.
