Are the big players actually holding through these dips?

Hey everyone, I’m still pretty new to the scene and trying to wrap my head around how the big institutional guys move. I just saw this Bitwise report floating around saying that all these institutions kept their crypto bags even when the market was down like 50 percent. Honestly, that kind of blows my mind because I’ve been sweating every time my portfolio drops even a little bit.

I thought these big firms were just in it for the quick scalp or to dump on us as soon as things got shaky, but it sounds like they’re actually playing the long game with Bitcoin. It makes me feel a bit better about holding my own modest stash, ngl, but I’m super confused about why they’d set exit rules for stuff like Solana and Ether while staying diamond handed on BTC. Does this mean I should stop checking the charts every five minutes and just stop worrying about the volatility, or are they just sitting on so much capital that the drawdown doesn't actually hurt them like it hurts us?

Don't buy the PR spin. Those reports are usually just marketing fluff designed to keep retail bagholders locked in while smart money looks for exit liquidity.

Also, with sticky inflation printing higher than expected and the Fed signaling they aren't done breaking things with rate hikes, liquidity is going to dry up fast. Institutions have deep pockets, sure, but when the macro environment turns toxic and borrowing costs stay elevated, even the big players get forced out of risk assets. I wouldn't take comfort in what some report claims they're doing—look at what the bond market is telling you instead.

Spot on, the second comment gets it. Never trust institutional PR pieces when macro conditions are falling apart. Deep pockets or not, nobody wants to hold a heavy bag while the Fed keeps tightening the screws and liquidity dries up.

That said, if you're sweating a 50% drawdown, your position size is way too big. Cut your exposure down to a level where you can actually sleep at night instead of staring at the charts every five minutes. The big guys survive because they manage risk and use hard stops, not because they just pray while holding through everything.

Man, people in here really overcomplicate it. The big players aren't sweating PR pieces or macro noise the same way retail is, they're just trading the levels. Look at the daily chart—we just swept the liquidity pool below that major swing low and immediately printed a massive displacement candle leaving behind a clean bullish order block and a fresh FVG. That’s where smart money actually stepped in and loaded up, not because they're blindly diamond handing, but because institutional execution is all about mitigating risk at premium vs discount arrays. Stop staring at useless reports and start tracking where the real money is trapping retail liquidity.

Spot on. Third guy actually reads the chart instead of LARPing as a macro economist. Sl hit and we bounce, tale as old as time.

Honestly everyone in here is completely missing the real trap. While you guys are arguing over whether they're dumping or diamond handing, nobody is asking what happens when the actual market maker liquidity dries up entirely next quarter. The real money isn't buying this dip, they're setting up the exit liquidity so they can short the absolute life out of the next fake bounce.
