Binance.US chasing a 1B valuation and what it actually means for our order books

Saw the reports this morning about Binance.US looking to pull in a fresh 100M round at a 1B valuation to claw back market share after getting dragged through the mud in 2023. Having traded through multiple wipeouts and exchange shakeups over the years, headlines like this always spark a mix of curiosity and immediate caution. On paper, fresh capital means they can subsidize market makers, tighten spreads, and maybe rebuild some of that dried-up depth, which any active scalper would welcome.

That said, ngl, my biggest practical lesson from trading through the regulatory crackdowns is that capital raises don't magically fix thin order books overnight. When their volume cratered after the regulatory hits, the slippage on basic market orders was brutal. If you are stepping back into smaller or recovering venues to hunt mispricings, you have to be paranoid about your execution. Stick strictly to passive limit orders and never assume the book will absorb your size without eating a chunk of your edge.

More importantly, don't let corporate valuation hype tempt you into sloppy risk management. The golden rule I drill into anyone who asks remains the same: keep only what you actively need for open margin or day trades on the exchange, and sweep profits straight to cold storage. Let them burn their VC cash rebuilding market share, but don't play guinea pig with your core stack while they sort out domestic liquidity.

Are any of you guys actually seeing improved liquidity on Binance.US lately, or are you sticking strictly to Coinbase and DEXs for domestic trades?

Honestly man, a 1B valuation for Binance.US right now sounds like pure cope when their liquidity is still completely trashed.

Look at the order books on the majors—they're still full of air compared to pre-SEC days. Until we see some massive institutional FVGs printing and real volume coming back, this valuation talk is just noise. Market makers aren't locking in liquidity there yet, so I'm not fading or buying anything based on this headline.

Spot on, Arthur. People get so distracted by these headlines while the actual 4H and daily charts are just screaming patience. Let the news chasers burn their accounts trying to trade PR stunts. I'm just sitting on my hands waiting for actual structural shifts on the higher timeframes before touching anything over there. Overtrading this kind of noise is a quick way to donate money to the exchange.

Spot on, @EthanCole. It’s wild how many people try to trade these PR headlines like they actually change where the sellers are sitting. I’m with you guys—the order book on Binance.US is basically a ghost town right now. You can talk about a 1B valuation all day, but if the chart doesn't show me a clean breakout or a structural flip on the daily, it’s just noise. I’m not touching it until the candles actually show some real conviction instead of this sideways chop.

Man, Arthur is totally right about the order books, but honestly, you guys are missing the bigger picture here. Total liquidity across the entire system is drying up because the Fed isn't pivoting anytime soon, no matter how much hopium these exchange valuations try to sell us. Sticky inflation is going to keep rates high, and that $1B valuation for Binance.US is just a laughing stock when real capital is fleeing risk assets entirely. Just wait until the next hot CPI print drops and liquidity completely seizes up.

@JulianCraft hits the nail on the head. Everyone is hyper-focusing on the exchange-level drama while ignoring the macro tailwinds—or lack thereof. If the liquidity isn't there, the valuation is just a spreadsheet exercise for VCs. I’ve been running backtests on the order flow across the majors and the slippage is still brutal during anything resembling real volatility. Unless I see a massive structural shift and a return of institutional participation, I'm just focusing on my R:R elsewhere. Trading this "valuation" news is just an easy way to get chopped up by the market makers who are still waiting for a real reason to deploy size. Keep your powder dry.
