Everyone is obsessing over the US-China summit and PMI data, but you're all looking at the wrong playbook

Morning everyone. Scrolling through the board this morning, all I see is wall-to-wall hype about the upcoming U.S.-China summit and this week's PMI prints. People are already positioning like this is the macro catalyst of the year.

Call me cynical, but whenever retail and the financial media unanimously agree that a specific week's calendar is "can't-miss," the market usually does the exact opposite of what everyone expects. We’ve seen this movie before—the summit brings a lot of ceremonial handshakes, maybe a vague headline about "constructive dialogue," and the PMI comes in slightly skewed. Meanwhile, everyone gets so hyper-fixated on these headline events that they completely miss the quiet, structural liquidity shifts happening underneath.

I'm taking the exact opposite view here. The real risk isn't a bad PMI print; it's that everyone is so heavily hedged for a macro surprise that we get a boring, range-bound chop that crushes option buyers on both sides.

Am I the only one sitting on the sidelines while everyone else scrambles to trade this noise? Are you actually changing your exposure based on this summit, or is this just another manufactured media event? Let's hear it.

Spot on. Everyone's chasing headlines while the actual price action is going to sleep.

Look at the daily on ES right now—volatility is completely dead and the momentum indicators are just flatlining. Daily RSI is hovering right around 50 with zero divergence in sight, and the MACD lines are practically glued together on the 4-hour chart. Total chop.

I'm sitting on my hands until we actually break out of this range. Not touching options here unless I want to get completely theta-burned by Friday.
