Hey guys, I'm pretty new to trading macro stuff and I'm really confused by some news I just read today. I always thought gold was supposed to be the ultimate safe-haven asset when geopolitical tensions kick up and energy prices spike. But I just saw an article saying rising oil prices are actually hitting gold hard because it's driving up inflation expectations, which means the Fed will keep interest rates higher for way longer.

Ngl this completely flips what I thought I understood. I get that higher rates increase the "opportunity cost" of holding gold since it doesn't pay yield, but isn't high inflation supposed to make gold pump? I was honestly getting massive FOMO and looking to buy the dip on gold, but now I'm having serious doubts about holding any long positions. If oil stays high and the Fed stays aggressive, does gold just keep dumping?

How do you experienced traders handle a setup like this? Are you shorting gold right now or just staying on the sidelines until the Fed chills out?

Man, welcome to the markets. First rule you gotta learn right now: correlation isn't permanent, and the market doesn't care about textbooks.

Everyone assumes gold is this pure inflation hedge, but right now high oil is just forcing the Fed to keep rates higher for longer. Higher rates mean a stronger dollar and surging Treasury yields, which is basically kryptonite for gold since it pays zero yield.

If you're trading this without a tight stop loss, you're just begging to get wiped out. Never risk more than 1% of your account on a single trade, especially when macro drivers are this messy.
