WTI looking strong this month but watch those headlines

Been watching WTI claw back some gains today and ngl it feels like we’re back in that classic geopolitical grind. We are looking at a solid 5.5% gain for the month which sounds great on paper, but if you’ve been around the block, you know these US-Iran stalemates are absolute minefields for retail traders. I remember getting caught on the wrong side of a snap decision regarding the Strait of Hormuz a few years back and it taught me the hard way that improved supply conditions mean absolutely nothing when a single headline about a tanker or a failed negotiation can spike the price several dollars in minutes.

It is super tempting to fomo into this monthly trend because it looks so consistent, but these geopolitical deadlocks are notorious for going nowhere for months and then exploding overnight. My personal rule for these setups is to keep my position sizing way tighter than usual and never hold a heavy long without a hard stop-loss firmly in place. The market is clearly pricing in a fear premium right now regardless of the actual oil flowing, and that makes it a scalp-heavy environment for me rather than a place to park a massive swing trade. Always remember that the charts can look perfect right up until a geopolitical event resets the entire board, so don't get married to the bull case just because the monthly candle looks pretty.

Are you guys holding your longs into next month or are you taking profit here before the next round of Iran headlines?

Everyone’s so obsessed with the headlines, but the charts are screaming the exact opposite of what the retail crowd is buying. You guys keep waiting for some geopolitical catalyst to push this higher, but all I see is an exhausted rally running into a brick wall of supply. Everyone is long, which is exactly why I’m looking for the rug pull once the momentum traps finally get squeezed. Enjoy the ride while it lasts, but don't say I didn't warn you when this takes a nosedive.
