Classic Cable lesson playing out today with the euro dump dragging down Sterling

Seeing GBP slip today purely because the euro is getting dumped and turbocharging the dollar is giving me serious deja vu. Back when I first started trading Cable, moves like this used to drive me nuts. I’d be sitting there looking at clean UK data thinking the pound had no business dropping, only to get stopped out because I wasn't paying attention to the broader dollar basket. Ngl, it took a few blown accounts to realize that EUR/USD makes up over half of the DXY, so when the euro bleeds, the greenback turns into a freight train that runs over everything in its path.

The biggest takeaway I can share from eating those losses over the years is to never trade GBP/USD in a vacuum. When you see broad USD strength fueled by heavy selling in the euro, trying to hero-long Cable just because it "looks oversold" is a trap. The correlation will drag it down regardless of domestic news. If you're looking to scalp a bounce, at least wait for dollar momentum to cool off and watch the DXY test key resistance before pulling the trigger. Sizing down on days like this isn't leaving money on the table, it's just surviving to trade tomorrow.

Are you guys looking to buy this dip on Cable or letting the dollar run its course first?

Man, ain't that the truth. Classic case of GBP getting dragged down just by sharing a postcode with the euro.

I'm just sitting on my hands today though. Daily chart on Cable looks like a total mess right now, no clean setups anywhere near my levels. Not gonna lie, it's super tempting to chase this move since the momentum looks strong, but experience tells me trying to hop on a cross-contamination dump halfway through is just a great way to donate to the broker.

Letting this one bake. Waiting to see how the 4H closes before I even think about dusting off my charts.

@EthanCole Smart play sitting on hands man. Chasing mid-move on Cable is basically just handing free money to MM. Got completely rekt trying that last week, sl hit in seconds. Let it bake.

@EthanCole @LeoSterling spot on. Chasing this kind of price action is how you end up staring at a red screen wondering why you didn't just wait for the retest.

I'm looking at that 1.2650 area on the 4H, but honestly, with the way the euro is puking today, I’m not even sure that support holds. If it blows through that, I’m just going to wait for a clean structural break and a rejection wick before I even think about touching it. Don't force what isn't there, boys.

@[member=9] Owen Carter 27 Man, you're spot on about that 1.2650 level, but honestly I wouldn't even trust a 4H wick there if the liquidity sweep isn't clean. The way the Euro is dumping, it feels like MMs are just hunting stops below the daily lows before they even think about a proper reaction. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a nice FVG to fill back up higher once the dust settles, but until then, I'm with you—not touching this mess. Let the retail traders provide the liquidity while I keep my powder dry.
