Just caught a piece of news that’s got me thinking about how we vet the platforms and firms we trade with. Seems like over 33,000 UK companies have gone dark on their filings right around the time these new mandatory director ID checks kicked in. It’s wild—these aren't just random shell companies that never filed, but firms that were perfectly on time a year ago and suddenly hit the brakes.

Honestly, as traders, we spend so much time looking at charts and trying to time the breakout that we completely forget to check the plumbing of the brokers or liquidity providers we’re using. I learned the hard way a few years back when a smaller broker I was using got caught up in a massive compliance mess, and my funds were locked for months while they scrambled to "verify identities." It was a nightmare. Seeing this data makes me realize that if a company is suddenly dodging basic filings now, they’re basically waving a red flag at the regulators.

If you’re running a corporate account or dealing with private firms, take this as a sign to double-check who you’re actually dealing with. Don't just look for the shiny UI or the tightest spreads; check if they’re actually keeping their house in order. Compliance is a massive headache, but it’s the only thing standing between you and a total liquidity freeze if the SEC or FCA decides to pull the plug. Stay sharp out there, don't let a bit of FOMO blind you to the boring but critical stuff like corporate transparency. Have any of you noticed your brokers getting way more aggressive with these identity requests lately?

Everyone's losing their minds over this like it's the end of the world, but honestly, it's just pure noise. Most of those "missing filings" are probably just dormant shells or micro-entities where the owner couldn't care less about Companies House deadlines. Everyone in here is acting like the entire UK corporate sector is about to implode, which usually means it's a fantastic time to look the other way and find some actual value while the panic merchants sell off.

Spot on, Liam. Absolute storm in a teacup. People love drama when markets are quiet, especially with everyone just staring at terminal screens waiting for the next US CPI print to drop. Let them panic sell micro-cap rubbish, I'm just watching cable drift while waiting for the real macro catalysts this week.

Maybe so, but "looking for value" in a mess like this is how people blow up their accounts. Even if it's 90% noise, that 10% of actual systemic rot can wreck your PnL if you aren't sizing down. I'm not touching anything UK small or mid-cap until the data clears up. If you're going in, keep the position size tiny and your stops tight. No point being a hero for a 2% bounce when the tail risk is this messy.
